Mi'kmaq FIRST NATION
"Archeological Native artifacts found in this area date back 10,600 years. "

While in Kent County don't miss the opportunity to visiting this small tranquil reserve nestled on the banks of the Bouctouche River. This small Band of Mi'kmaqs have taken their future into their own hands and are attempting to build a secure resource base for the future of their children. Following the path of their ancestors they still use the resources of Mother Earth to provide a lively hood, as in the fisheries and forestry industry.

A new industry recently entered by the Band is Ecotourism. They have little hesitation here, as it is their tradition and joy to welcome visitors to their community. "A Mi'kmaq Experience" their Ecotourism Business, is an excellent way to provide employment within the community, and also a way to dispel many myths and stereotypes about the aboriginal people. While educating others through an opportunity for a first hand experience, they are creating better cross cultural understanding.

This community is a prime example of the melding of the three cultures of Kent County. Though this is a Mi'kmaq Reserve, through inter marriage, many of the residents of the community are of Acadian, English, and other decent and their beautiful children can claim more than one rich heritage.
