We are told that Richibucto was the largest site of Indian villages on the entire coast of the North American continent.

The river and outer coast of the Richibucto is lined with wigwams and great Forts for six miles north and south of the harbor entrance, and the Richibucto Indians are the mightiest tribe of the MICMAC NATION.

In the 1723 a very general war was commenced against the English by several division of the Micmacs or Eastern Nation and the mightiest and most violent and most sanguinary of all taking part in that fight were the Richibucto Micmacs.

They were assisted by the Penobscots who were commanded by Argimoosh, The Great Witch who was a man of great courage. They attacked Canso and other places along the coast and captured 17 New England vessels belonging to Massachusetts. The Indians had killed nearly all of the crew of the 17 vessels.
