ALEXANDER KEITH was born on October 5,
1795 at Halkirk on the River Thurso, six miles from the town of Thurso
in Caitnesshire Scotland. In his boyhood and youth, he received the
benefit of an excellent education. In
1812 at the age of seventeen, he went to Sunderland, England, then the
center of the brewing trade in Northern England, where he was placed
under the instruction of his uncle to learn the brewing and malting
business.
Five years later he embarked for Halifax.
However our early notes refer to the time he spent in Richibucto.
He must have developed a fondness for
the town and people for in 1861 he purchased the property from Edmond
and John Hutchinson (August 16th 1861).
