WILLIAM A. FERGUSON
Education has always been important to
the people of Richibucto. The early settlers were determined to give
their children the best; they wanted the learning system in their new
land to equal the opportunity available in Europe.
For years, Governor Thomas Carleton had
been bearing the brunt of criticism that no schools were available in
the rich seaport of Richibucto.
Carleton relented and they built the
Public School in 1815. Many teachers rose to the challenge. Perhaps, one
of the best known was Jacob Ferguson who taught in 1852.
