Dr. Ferguson was also the regional medical
officer for the Canadian National Railways. His memory for details enabled
cases to be swiftly handled by the Provident Fund Board. His
practice in Moncton extended over a period of 37 years, and during that
time he gave his life devotedly to his profession, and to the welfare
of his patients.
While the patients were his major interest
in life, he found great intellectual and spiritual happiness in the
companionship of the worlds greatest thinkers and philosophers. He
read Greek in the original for the pure joy of it and many quiet evenings
were spent with his Bible. His
serene personal philosophy and profound Christian faith were reflected
in his service to mankind.
His natural affinity was with the brilliant
minds and great souls of the world. A life-long friend of Lord Beaverbrook
who often visited him here in Richibucto. In
the spring of 1935 his health began to fail although he was able to
carry on his practice to a limited degree, and was active until a few
days before his death, which occurred on October 2nd 1935. After the
services, Ferguson`s body was taken to the Railway Depot where it was
put on the Ocean Limited for the last ride to Montreal where the body
was cremated.
The Ferguson`s were engaged in many careers
and pursuits. John Ferguson was Captain’s Clerk aboard the frigate "Savannah".
This was one of the fleet, which took possession of San Francisco in
1847. The Spanish influence and control of this California City was
over.
Nessie Ferguson was a loved school teacher.
